LEGO Mindstorms NXT

Create the smartest, strongest and most advanced LEGO® robot ever, in as few as 30 minutes! LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT includes an all-new NXT Intelligent Brick with 32-bit microprocessor, 3 Interactive Servo motors, a sound sensor, an ultrasonic visual sensor, an improved touch sensor, and an improved light sensor. The kit also features 519 specially selected LEGO TECHNIC elements for sturdy and durable building and improved functionality and movement, 4 input ports, 3 output ports and 7 6-wire cords Matrix display, Piezo speakers, USB 2.0 and Bluetooth support and an easy-to-use PC and Mac compatible programming software.

iRobot Create

Create comes preassembled and is ready to use right out of the box. Beginners can observe the robot’s behavior in any of the 10 demonstration modes or program the robot themselves by downloading scripts with any basic terminal program. Advanced users can write custom software using a variety of methods that take advantage of the robot’s “streaming sensor data” mode for more control of the robot. Highly advanced users can write programs for completely autonomous behavior. Create is making a difference in the advancement of robotics research, product development and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.

Modular Robotics

Modular Robotics makes robot construction kits. By combining sensor, logic and actuator blocks, young kids can create simple reconfigurable robots that exhibit surprisingly complex behavior. The blocks are self-describing, so they can provide helpful feedback to the user, and automatically adjust their functionality based on how they've been assembled. The blocks are 40mm plastic cubes with magnetic connectors -- just pick them up and start building! Using just the blocks, you can create smart robots that sense, plan, and act. We expect to have a beta version of the construction kits for sale in 2009.

VEX Robotics Design System

The VEX Robotics Design System offers students an exciting platform for learning about areas rich with career opportunities spanning science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). These are just a few of the many fields students can explore by creating with VEX technology. Beyond science and engineering principles, a VEX Robotics project encourages teamwork, leadership and problem solving among groups. It also allows educators to easily customize projects to meet the level of students' abilities. The affordable VEX platform is expanding rapidly and is now found in middle schools, high schools and university labs around the globe. Curricula based on VEX are currently available from respected education specialists Intelitek, Carnegie Mellon University and Autodesk.

IPRE Scribbler

The Scribbler is a fully programmable, intelligent robot with multiple sensor systems that let it interact with people and objects. It navigates on its own as it explores its surroundings, and then reports back about what it senses using light and sound.

GEARS Education Systems

GEARS Educational Systems provides students and teachers with a comprehensive array of authentic STEM education activities. These include the integration of hands-on projects with curriculum resources. The GEARS suite of education resources includes lessons, activities and engineering challenges in the following areas: CAD, Mechanical Design Projects, Pneumatics, Motors and Drive Systems, and both Tele-operated and autonomous controlled mechatronic and robotic machines.

Topobo

Topobo is the world's first construction toy with kinetic memory, the ability to record and playback physical motion. Snap together Passive (static) and Active (motorized) pieces into a creation, and with a press of a button and a flick of your wrist, you can teach your creation how to dance or walk. The same way you can learn how buildings stand by stacking up blocks, you can discover how animals walk by playing with Topobo. Topobo can record and playback physical motion! Snap Actives and Passives together into a moose, move the moose's body in your hands, and then watch the moose walk and dance by itself. Topobo doesn't require a computer to teach it how to behave: to program it, just move it around!

Boe-Bot

Build, program and invent with the Boe-Bot Robot from Parallax! Used in classrooms around the world, the Boe-Bot features a BASIC Stamp 2 microcontroller brain with easy-to-learn PBASIC programming language. Following along with the activities in the included Robotics with the Boe-Bot text, students quickly learn about embedded projects from wiring and components to programming and mechanical relationships. Follow light, roam autonomously while avoiding objects, or follow a line while taking advantage of the Boe-Bot’s unique combination of flexible programming language and breadboard circuit prototyping area.
