Matt  Mason

Is your robot artistic? Dr. Matt Mason, director of the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, has developed all kinds of interesting robots throughout his career. One robot that Mason created can do origami, the Japanese art of decorative paper folding. While origami can be challenging for a person, it is even more difficult for a robot because of the movements and folding required to create a multi-dimensional sculpture from a single sheet of flat paper. Dr. Mason has devoted much of his research to exploring how robots can manipulate the things around them and to developing the capability for robots to decide what actions they need to take to achieve a particular goal.
